The MotoGP pre-season test entered its second day as riders took advantage of a dry track to chalk scorching times at Sepang Circuit as Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner went fastest today with nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi continued to struggle on his Ducati debut.

Third fastest yesterday with a lap time of 2 minutes 2.024s, the Spaniard shed off almost two seconds from his opening day timing with an awesome time of 2 minutes 0.770 seconds on the fourth lap of his morning run.

The time stood until the conclusion of Day 2 with Stoner – who clocked the fastest time yesterday – coming closest to match his team-mate timing with 2 minutes 1.434 seconds around the 5.543-kilometer during the tail end of the session.

American Ben Spies, who took over the seat vacated by Rossi at Yamaha Factory Racing – was third fastest with a lap time with 2 minutes 1.508 seconds, which was recorded during the morning session on a day of clear skies and sweet sunshine.

Clearly still struggling with his injured shoulder and still familarising himself to the behavior of th Ducati machine, Rossi sat in 13th position in today’s timing sheet with a time 2 minutes 2.597 seconds. Yesterday, the Italian was 12th fastest with a time of 2 minutes 3.365 seconds.

Second fastest yesterday, world champion Jorge Lorenzo was seventh fastest today on his Yamaha M1 machine with a time of 2 minutes 1.563 seconds.

Day 2 was an incident-free session until 40 minutes before the conclusion of Day 2 at 6pm when rookie Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech 3 slid into the gravel bed at Turn 6; but stood up immediately to jog away from the track.

Twenty minutes later, Randy de Puniet of  Pramac Racing Team dropped his Ducati at Turn 9 to record only the second crash of the day.

Tomorrow’s  session – Day 3 and the final day of the test session – starts at 10am. Fans can catch the action from the Main Grandstand at no charge. Fans can also take advantage of their trip to Sepang to purchase special discounts tickets for the upcoming Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix in October.
